You are a germ.

You got in on a doorknob. Nobody has noticed yet.

Gut Feeling is a run & gun about being the smallest, least welcome thing in a very large body — and about that body slowly working out that you are there. Every organ is a level, every organ has something enormous at the end of it, and the immune system escalates across the whole game from “routine, deploying standard mucus” to “we have woken up the tenant”.

This demo is the first two areas and both of their bosses.

What’s in it

🫁 THE THROAT — Run and gun fundamentals, laid over a corridor that is itself the puzzle. Shootable cartilage, blinking membranes, crumbling scabs, jaws that slam on a beat you can learn. Everything timed in the level runs on the same beat, so a room you have never seen is still readable on sight.

KING UVULA — He is, structurally, a flap. He has been informed that he is a weapon. He took the news well.

🩸 THE BLOODSTREAM — There is no floor here, and that changes everything. You sink constantly, the jump button becomes a stroke of the tail, and you get full 2D movement — as does everything hunting you. The water itself is the level: currents that carry you or cost you every tile, plasma pockets that thicken until your glide dies, and muscle rings that clench the vessel down to a single moving gap.

LORD FATBERG — Thirty years of poor decisions in a coat. He does not chase you. He simply decides which parts of the room you are still allowed to be in, and then takes them.

How it plays

  • Momentum movement — committed turns, coyote time, jump buffering, variable jump height
  • 8-way aim, aim-lock, and a dash with invulnerability frames
  • Weapon commitment — no weapon wheel. You keep the gun you picked up, and every upgrade is hidden somewhere that costs you time, exposure or nerve
  • Cover actually matters — bullets do not pass through walls, in either direction
  • Bosses are readable, not memorisable — every attack telegraphs, and there is always somewhere to be

Everything here is drawn in code

No sprites, no image files, no fonts, no asset packs. Every germ, every organ, every drop of plasma is canvas drawing code, and the music is a tiny procedural chiptune. The whole game is one HTML file and one script.

Controls

Keyboard or gamepad, and every button is remappable for both. There is a controls-only tutorial on the title screen that you can replay at any time.

There are also assist options — extra health, no penalty, no scoreboard, and nobody is told. If the Throat is fighting you, turn them on. I would much rather you saw the Bloodstream.

🩸 This is a demo, and I need to know what you think

I am one person, and whether the other five organs get built depends a good deal on what comes back from this.

If you stop playing, I would genuinely rather know where and why than hear that it was good. That is the single most useful thing you can send me — the exact room you gave up in.

Everything else is welcome too: what felt bad, what felt great, whether the swimming clicked, whether the bosses were fair. All of it helps.

Planned for the full version: the Stomach (rising acid), the Heart (everything on a beat), the Lungs, the Brain, and whatever the body finally sends when it stops reacting and starts hunting.
